J.K rowling just released a new book called 'The Ickabog' yesterday, it was written whilst J.K Rowling was working on Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. She mentions that The Ickabog is not in any way or form a spinoff of Harry Potter.
Readers will be introduced to King Fred the Fearless, a monarch with curly blonde hair and the Ickabog himself, a mysterious monster who lives in the marshlands. The book is designed to be read aloud but is also recommended for children that are 7 to 9 years of age to read themselves.
The story was kept in the attic, the only people who'd heard the story of 'The Ickabog' were her two younger children. Fast forward to today, she thought why not bring this story for people to enjoy while in isolation. 10 years later, she received feedback from her children of what they remember from the story when they were little and after a few rewrites, two chapters have been now released online for all of us to read right at the comfort of our homes!
J.K. Rowling is inviting all the budding artists to illustrate The Ickabog for her. Every day when chapters of the story are uploaded, there will be suggestions of what you might like to draw or paint to illustrate the story as it goes along. Let your inner Leonardo Da Vinci shine!
If you are between 7 and 12 years old, your parent or guardian on your behalf can enter your drawings or paintings into the official competition being run by J.K. Rowling’s publishers, stand a once in a lifetime chance to be featured in The Ickabog book, which is published in November. The competition is now open in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India, the US and Canada, and will be extended to other countries very soon. So stay tuned!
