Reviews from Around the World
I Believe in Myself is a wonderful book that teaches kids how to manage their emotions, firstly by understanding that there will always be alternatives, options of what to do in no matter what circumstances are, and secondly by reaffirming that Poppy (the main character) can figure out what to do, how handle the situation and/or control herself and stay calm. The situations are very realistic and some examples of alternatives (of what to do) are really funny. For example, when someone gets a birthday present and Poppy feels jealous, she can (1) give herself a present, (2) wear a hat over her eyes so that she doesn’t have to see or (3) she can remember that everyone gets a turn for presents and she will too. In the closing pages, "Poppy" is surrounded by self-portraits with all the different types of emotions, which will help kids and parents discuss about them. Lastly an invitation for children to draw themselves on a page that has the mantra “I believe in myself” closes it nicely. This book will boost your child self-confidence and help prepare your child for life’s challenges for years to come! The illustrations are very pretty and the message that we are good enough, strong enough is one that is equally valid for adults and kids.
